OTTAWAY DELIGHTED OVER PLANNING SUCCESS FOR COULSDON RESIDENTS

Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has warmly welcomed the decision made by the Planning Inspector to refuse permission for a block of flats and eight detached houses on the corner of Woodfield Hill and Hollymeoak Road.

"This is an excellent result for local residents. The Inspector has concluded
that the proposed development 'would materially harm the
well-landscaped character and appearance of the surrounding suburban
locality'. This establishes an important precedent for South Croydon since
there are many areas which fall under this definition.

The prospects of conserving these areas are much enhanced with this decision
and for those, like myself, who have been concerned by overdevelopment, this is
a highly relevant decision.

Much credit is due to the concerted efforts of local residents who have actively
campaigned against this scheme."
