OTTAWAY SLAMS COUNCIL OVER TIP CLOSURES
Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has hit out at Croydon
Council's proposals to close rubbish tips for four days a week. The announcement
was made by the Council as part of its second round of planned cuts for
the forthcoming financial year.
Richard Ottaway says:-
"We know that the Council is in severe financial difficulties
and it was clear some
time ago that the local tips were likely to be closed for two days a
week.
However this decision is far worse than we expected."
"I am dismayed at this announcement and the effect such tip closures
will have on
local residents. It is absolutely ludicrous for Croydon to spend a £130,000
grant
on improving the Purley Oaks site and then only opening it at weekends
plus
one weekday."
"There are already difficulties with queues of cars waiting to
access the Purley
Oaks tip at busy times and this can only make matters worse. This disgraceful
decision does nothing to encourage the people of Croydon to recycle
and
everything to encourage fly-tipping."
