FUTURE OF KENLEY AIRFIELD IS SECURE SAYS OTTAWAY

Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has today welcomed the Ministry of Defence's answer to a Parliamentary Question which indicates that Kenley Airfield is to continue being used by the Kenley Air Cadets Gliding School and the Surrey Hills Gliding Club. This follows concerns that the Airfield was to be sold by the MoD for housing rather than reverting to common land as originally intended.

Richard Ottaway says:-

"Kenley Airfield is a valuable resource for the people of Croydon and beyond. For the last 20 years it has prov ided the only gliding centre in Greater London with some 10,000 glider flights each year. It is a unique leisure facility for people of all ages and sexes."

"Under the circumstances I am delighted that the Government has pledged to retain the Airfield rather than selling it off."
