OTTAWAY SLAMS COUNCIL'S PROPOSED EXTENTION TO CONTROLLED PARKING

Richard Ottaway, Conservative Member of Parliament for Croydon South, has today formally objected to the Council's proposals to extend controlled parking in parts of the Borough. The Council's proposals include sharp increases in charges for parking on the road and in off-street car parks, increases in the cost of resident and business parking permits and a major extension to the hours of operation of controlled parking zones.

Richard Ottaway says:-

"As the Council has failed to demonstrate that these measures will ease congestion, they are clearly intended to raise funds for the Council, rather than improve quality of life in Croydon. In fact, these proposals will hit both residents and local businesses hard."

"Labour have long been anti car. To them, the motorist is a convenient source of revenue which will enable them to start to balance their books after years poor financial management in Croydon. I call on Croydon Council to drop these proposals."

Ends.
