Purley Cross road improvement plans unacceptable says
Ottaway
Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has criticised TfL's
road improvement plans for Purley Cross.
Richard Ottaway says:-
"These plans are anti-car and will do nothing to ease traffic
congestion at the centre of Purley. To have the A23 and A22 meeting
at a T-junction is a recipe for traffic chaos, tailbacks, increased
congestion and extra pollution."
"I welcome the sentiment in attempting to join-up Tesco with Purley
town centre but this is a cut-price deal which won't work. Purley deserves
better and I call on the Mayor of London to come up with a serious proposal
not this half-baked plan."
"Of particular concern is that the proposed new road goes close
to the dedicated car park for the South East Cancer Help Centre. This
car park is the only place that cancer victims can park to attend the
Centre. There has clearly been no serious thought given to this proposal
at all."
