OTTAWAY PAYS TRIBUTE TO FALKLANDS SERVICEMEN

Richard Ottaway, Conservative Member of Parliament for Croydon South, visited the Falkland Islands, from 13th to 21st February, as part of a Parliamentary delegation of MPs.

During his visit he laid a wreath at the San Carlos Memorial in memory of the British Servicemen who fell during the Falklands conflict in 1982. The cemetery is located in San Carlos Bay where the first British landings took place in the battle to reclaim the Falkland Islands after they were invaded by Argentina.

"It was a moving moment. The names of friends who died in the Falklands were engraved in stone at the cemetery. I was proud to pay tribute to them at long last."

"It was a marvellous opportunity to see the benefits that have accumulated to the Falklands since 1982. Investment in agriculture, fisheries and tourism has transformed the economy to the extent that it now comfortably stands on its own two feet."
