Ottaway says TfL listens to common sense

Local traders have been up in arms following Transport for London's announcement that it was to carry out road-works on the Kenley stretch of the A22 Godstone Road in the run up to Christmas. The work, announced at short notice without prior consultation, commenced on 17th November and was due to last for four weeks, which would usually be the shops' busiest trading period.

Together with local traders, Kenley Councillors and local London Assembly Member, Conservative MP for Croydon South, Richard Ottaway, has asked TfL to postpone the work until after Christmas. TfL have in principle agreed that works will commence on Monday 17th November but cease on 1st December to recommence in the new year.

Richard Ottaway says:-

"These works will make parking near the shops difficult and would have had dire consequences for these businesses if allowed to continue in the run up to Christmas. I am delighted that TfL have listened to common sense and agreed to postpone some of the work until the new year."

Ends.
