DAY AGGREGATES SHOULD VACATE PURLEY GOODS YARD SAYS OTTAWAY

Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has again urged Croydon Council's Planning Committee to turn down Day Aggregates application to expand their operation at Purley Station Yard.

Day Aggregates, who own Purley Goods Yard, have re-submitted an application to expand their operations there. This follows Richard Ottaway's submission to the Council's Unitary Development Plan recommending that Day Aggregates should find a more suitable location, rather than expand in Purley.

Richard Ottaway says:-

"Purely on the principle that I am opposed to the presence of Day Aggregates at Purley Station Yard, it logically follows that I am opposed to any further industrial development in what is a residential area".

"Local residents are sick and tired of the noise and dust pollution as well as the volume of very heavy lorry traffic which is entirely unsuitable for a residential area."

"On one hand, the Council is behind efforts of Transport for London to improve Purley Town Centre. On the other hand, it looks as though the Council will grant planning permission for Day Aggregates to expand. This is pure inconsistency. Any improvements to Purley Town Centre will be blighted by the increased activity at Purley Station Yard."
