Ottaway seeks review of new Southern rail timetable

Date Filed:  Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has written to the Managing Director of Southern to express his serious concerns about the new timetable which came into effect on 23rd May.

Richard said:

“I have received many complaints from constituents who have found Southern’s new timetable dreadful for commuter journeys.

“Residents are complaining that the reduction in train services into London from local commuter stations, the over-crowding on half-length trains and regular delays are making their daily commute an absolute nightmare.

“Commuters who have contacted Southern directly say that Southern is blaming the new East London line, which is using tracks between West Croydon and London Bridge, but this is of no consolation to commuters trying to get from stations like Sanderstead, Purley Oaks or Kenley, into Victoria or London Bridge.

“Quite frankly the resultant serious overcrowding on services is very worrying and I have written to Southern to seek an urgent review of this situation.”
