Ottaway welcomes new rules on garden grabbing

Date Filed:  Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, has welcomed the Government’s announcement to remove ‘garden’ land from the definition of ‘previously developed’ land.

Richard said:

“I am delighted that the new Government has made such an early announcement on garden grabbing and has changed the planning rules to specifically exclude private residential gardens from the ‘brownfield’ definition.

“This is a really important decision for Croydon South as the protection of gardens from infilling is close to the hearts of many local residents. The amendment which came into immediate effect last month will help to conserve green spaces and maintain the character of local neighbourhoods.

“Planning Inspectors have been advised of the new rules, alerting them to the change. For details please see the Planning Inspectorate website: www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk/pins/index.htm”
